  • The Community Factor

I've been playing both Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch 2, and I have to say, I'm really surprised by the difference in community activity. TF2 feels like it's still thriving, with tons of active players and a vibrant modding scene. Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 seems to have lost some of the energy it had at launch. Why do you guys think TF2 is doing so well when Overwatch 2 seems to be struggling to keep players interested?

I think it boils down to community-driven content. TF2 has always been about the players contributing to the game—whether it’s through mods, skins, or custom maps. That gives it a sense of ownership and involvement that you just don’t get with Overwatch 2. Blizzard seems more focused on the commercial side of things, while Valve lets players shape the experience. Plus, TF2 has had years to build that loyalty.

Totally agree. The strength of TF2 lies in the fact that it doesn’t feel like a corporate product—it feels like a game that players are still a part of, even after all these years. The community creates so much content that it keeps the game alive. If you want to dive into the details of why Team Fortress 2 is thriving while Overwatch 2 is facing issues, there’s a great breakdown here https://www.southwestjournal.com/gam...2-is-thriving/ . It goes into the dynamics of player engagement and what each game offers to its community.
